Montessori Baby

I bought this book on Amazon called The Montessori Baby. I've really enjoyed it. It's all about giving babies an environment where they can thrive. It talks about developmental stages babies go through and types of activities that they will enjoy and that will challenge them and help in their development. It encourages baby freedom, saying to help babies as little as possible and as much as needed. Let them move whenever they can and give them "yes" areas where nothing is off limits. Give them babysized things (a little table and chairs, pictures on the wall at their level, a toy shelf that they can reach with activities they enjoy, baby sized plates, cups, silverware when they start eating, etc). And it talks about how babies absorb everything around them so give them a simple and beautiful space.

I love the principles a lot. And I'm at a perfect time in my life to implement them:

1. I have a baby.

2. Parley has about 3 toys. I'm going to get him toys anyway as he gets old enough for them. Might as well get Montessori toys.

3. We're about to move to a bigger house. We will need to arrange it, decorate it, baby proof it, and give Parley his own room.  Might as well set it up so Parley has an awesome environment like Montessori suggest.

I decided to make an Amazon wish list of all the things I like. I've had so much fun making it! We toured 2 townhomes in Tallahassee today through Google Meet. I'm really excited about them! I keep picturing living in them and thinking of how I'd love to set it up for Parley.

I've gone a little crazy on the wishlist and realized it's a bit expensive to get all the things that I picture. The good news is, I love Parley so much, and I can let him move around for free. I'm also getting more and more excited for Florida. Also, I've never cared one bit about how my house is decorated before, but now I care what Parley's room looks like. This is a huge step for me! Maybe it's part of becoming a mom. Desi has been telling me all about her plans for her baby room, and I'm finally starting to get how exciting that sort of thing is. :) And I'm hoping Facebook Marketplace and thrift stores will help me out. And I can make some things! Again, Desi has inspired me. She's making such cute things for her baby's room. I'm not great at that sort of thing like she is, but I'll work on it. If I'm very persistent and keep having kids, the youngest is bound to be a Montessori baby!

(Also, I just love this first picture of Parley! I caught him in a giant smile.)

  2. I agree with your post so much. I read a book when my children were babies and I used it with all of them. It talked about increasing your child's IQ with just simple activities and things you have around the house. And we all know how smart my kids turned out. So it worked! Darling photos.
