Oven Fire and a Sleepy Family

Today was a big day for us! It started with sleeping in, which is just wonderful. Nikki's friend from Jerome is going on a mission to California, and we went to hear him speak today. His ward is at noon!! He did so well, and it was all very nice. I was working with Parley a lot during church. He had a big meal and two outfit changes, and then he got real fussy and did not want me to sit down one bit. So we wandered around the building and mostly just listened to everything. It was hot in the meeting house, and I started to feel really weird. I was scared I might faint, but I didn't! Nikki got Parley to sleep after church, and we put him in his carseat to drive to lunch with all the friends. Parley was dead asleep, and I didn't want to wake him up and still didn't feel normal. So I hung out in the car with him instead of going to the lunch.

We had a nice time. I talked to lots of my family and read some emails and the scriptures. But I started getting so, so hungry. Nikki brought me out food when he left, but a lot of the food was gone by then, so I mostly got carrots and a whole tray of treats. I ate two lemon bars, some sort of bar with chocolate frosting, a cookie, and lots of carrots really fast. I was like the very hungry caterpillar. :) It was not a good idea for me to do that when I was already feeling weird. I did not feel good at all.

I had offered to bring my neighbor who just had a baby dinner tonight. I had told her we were making meatloaf, but then all our festivities took longer than expected, and meatloaf takes a long time to cook. When we got home, Nikki was tired, I was tired and feeling weird, and Parley was just waking up and hungry. Nikki was a hero though and helped so much. We took turns holding Parley and cooking and made a lovely meal. Parley was real fussy, and Nikki was walking around with him, the meatloaf was in the oven, and I was cutting watermelon, when Nikki noticed the oven. A fire had started inside of it!! I had never seen that before! As soon as we turned off the oven, the fire went out. We're going to investigate more tomorrow when it's all cooled off. But my neighbors had to finish cooking the meatloaf in their own oven because I was too scared to try again.

By this point, Parley seemed sleepy again and like he was ready for a nap. We turned off the lights, turned on the sound machine, rocked him, sang to him, put him into pajamas, did everything we could think of, but Parley would not fall asleep! He was awake for a 4 1/2 hour chunk, which is entirely too long for him. I was getting so worn out, but then Nikki would step in and take him for a while. It was nice to switch off with him. I am going to miss him so, incredibly much when he goes to Florida and Denmark. I love him and Parley.

When we finally got Parley to sleep, we had a movie date. We watched Miracle, and I loved it!! Parley woke up and ate after the movie, but now all three of us sleepy Kepfords are going to sleep. I'm so, very grateful! And I'm grateful our house didn't burn down, too. I have so much to be grateful for!
