Prayer Works
Elder Bednar gave 2 conference talks in 2008, both about prayer. They are really, exceptionally good. They are inspiring me and teaching me how to have more meaningful prayers. In one of the talks, he talks about the creation and how everything was created spiritually before it was created physically. We can do the same thing with prayer and then report back and show gratitude.
I have really struggled going to church consistantly since Parley was born. Recently, his night is 12-10 am, with feedings sprinkled throughout. When I need to be done sleeping at 7:30 or 8 instead of 10, it's really hard. But I missed the ward party yesterday to take a nap and did not want to miss church! So, I prayed. I asked for help to know what to do to help me get to church, and we spiritually created the day together. The plan began Saturday night where I take as many naps as I can in the early evening. I checked my app where I track Parley's eating and sleeping and saw that usually Parley sleeps until 10 am and then has his biggest eating time (except at 10 or 11 pm). So, I spiritually created that sacrament meeting he'd be real sleepy, and I wasn't going to stress one bit about second hour. If I spent the whole time in the mother's room, it would be okay. I told Mom about this, and she prayed for me, too.
The prayers really worked! I felt calm and ready for church and throughout church. Which is really big because it's been stressing me out, so much that I keep skipping to get more sleep. I took big naps Saturday and had a pretty good night with Parley. Nikki helped me wake up when I needed to to get ready. Parley was dead asleep and stayed asleep when we loaded him into his car seat. He stayed asleep until halfway through sacrament meeting, and then I fed him in the chapel. Second hour was mostly spent in the mother's room, but I was okay with it. He had 4 massive spit up explosions-- one while he was meeting the bishop and the rest in the mother's room. I brought plenty of outfits for Parley to change into but none for me! I had spit up all over my new dress. (Also, I'm giving up dairy for 2-4 weeks because I worry Parley might have reflux and be allergic to milk proteins. So I'm testing it. I would do anything for my boy!)
My new friend Emma has a baby three weeks older than Parley, and we always chat in the mother's room. It's good fun. I was able to make it to the last 17 minutes of primary and talked to my friends there afterwards. Three of them are pregnant! I'm so excited for them and was so happy to chat.
I am so, very grateful for my answered prayer. I love my Heavenly Father and want to feel close to Him, but I haven't been putting in the effort. I'm going to do better.
We had such a good day after church, too. My favorite part was Parley was an outside baby. We layed a blanket on the grass in front of our apartment complex, and the three of us layed on it and chatted. Parley loved it and was so cute and curious as he looked around. What a wonderful boy we have!
I love to see Parley on the grass nestled up to his mom's pretty hair!
ReplyDeleteThis is so good, Liberty. What a wonderful thing that you can learn that with prayer and lots of planning you can do hard things. Love you so much.
