Pure Religion
I'm feeling so much better about all we have to do with moving. Our friends John and Liz just came over for two and a half hours tonight to help us. This was the second time this week Liz came and helped us pack. They cleaned and packed our whole kitchen (except stuff we still need and the oven, which Nikki cleaned), even yucky places like under the counters and in the microwave. They brought us boxes and packed lots of stuff. They were so kind and acted like it wasn't a big deal and even like they enjoyed it. We just chatted and it was so easy and nice. We're good friends, especially John and Nikki who have talked every day for years, but there was no feeling of them being sad or upset with us leaving. They're genuinely happy and excited for us. And I'm excited for them! They're getting married in a couple weeks. It felt really good to be with them.
The last few weeks, Nikki and I have started sharing what we learned in our personal study with each other for our family scripture study. I had a nice little scripture study today, but as I was thinking about what to share, I realized I learned more about Jesus Christ from them than my scripture study today. So I went in search of some scriptures to match. James 1 talks about being doers of the word and not just hearers. I think service is the purest form of worship because it's not about you at all. James 1:27 is one of my favorite verses:
"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
We weren't in that dire of need, but we were stressed and needed help, and Liz and John realized and stepped in without us even asking or saying anything about it to them. That's pure religion. I'm so grateful for their help and for what they taught me about Jesus Christ.
Parley looks quite alarmed! I love this post!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Parley is getting plenty to eat. I am so thankful that you have such good friends and that they helped you so much.
